Co Tu Craft Village Tour – Homegrown Cotton Making, Natural Dye & Weaving Workshop – Quang Nam Province

The Co Tu community in Quang Nam accounts for 74.2% of the total Co Tu population in Vietnam and is concentrated along the Truong Son mountain in the three districts of Nam Giang, Dong Giang, Tay Giang. The Co Tu have many different traditional crafts such as brocade weaving, mat weaving, basket weaving and handmade pottery. In particular, the Co Tu brocade weaving was included in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2014.

The Co Tu weaving technique is famous for weaving colored thread patterns, bead patterns and ikat weaving to create wavy patterns. While Dhroong village has a brocade weaving cooperative and develops the craft of weaving colored thread and bead patterns, Cong Don village is a rare place in Quang Nam that still grows cotton to spin yarn, dye indigo and ikat to create wavy patterns. Textile Linker cooperates with artisans and the Co Tu community tourism cooperative to organize craft village tours and workshops to explore homegrown cotton yarn making, natural dyeing, and weaving.
